FDA Approves First at Home Genetic Kit to Test Risk for 10 Diseases


The consumer genetics company 23andme has received FDA approval for a personal genetic testing kit that will allow users to test their DNA to asses their genetic risk for various diseases. The 10 diseases include: Parkinson's disease, Celiac disease, Gaucher disease type 1, Late-onset Alzheimer's disease, Early-onset primary dystonia, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, Factor XI deficiency, Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency, Hereditary hemochromatosis, and Hereditary thrombophilia.
